ΚΛ History
The Kappa Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. was established on Saturday, June 9, 1923 in Greensboro, North Carolina by Brother Stansback of Wilson, North Carolina. The Charter Members of the Kappa Lambda Chapter were:
• Brother F.L. Merry – President
• Brother F.D. Bluford – Vice President
• Brother J.B. Matthews – Secretary
• Brother D.K. Cherry – Chaplain
• Brother C.W. Davis
• Brother R.O. Lanier
• Brother H.D. Giles
KΛ is the 10th alumni chapter established by the fraternity. Although the fraternity initially began at the collegiate level, during the fifth annual convention and the first alumni reunion, held in 1912, the fraternity established its first alumni chapter, Alpha Lambda. Kappa Lambda (KΛ) was the first alumni chapter established in the state of North Carolina. Currently, there are 16 alumni chapters and 26 college chapters in North Carolina. KΛ supports and advises four local college chapters; Beta Epsilon (North Carolina A&T State University), Pi Zeta (University of North Carolina at Greensboro), Sigma Delta (Elon University), and Phi Pi (High Point University- which was chartered through KL in 2022).
